My life was at a crossroads. I had just been thrust into an entirely new season and wasn’t sure what was next for me. Was it working full time? Was it college still? Was it a mix?

I would find out two weeks later, and my life hasn’t been the same since.

One day in late April, I was given the opportunity to go on a construction trip to Missouri with a former youth leader of mine from years prior in a couple of weeks. I knew it would be the toughest trip I’d ever been on, and I was correct.

Over the course of a week we worked each day from 8 am until 5 with only lunch in the middle. From the forefront this may seem like it was a lot, but it felt like a breeze because of the people surrounding me.

Each one of them poured into me and my calling each day and made me a part of the team. I didn’t feel alienated because I was 10 years younger than the next youngest, or because I didn’t have a ton of experience.

They showed me the true hospitality of Jesus and how he goes out of His way to find us. Why did they do it though? I could barely load a nail gun correctly.

Simply put, It’s just what they do.

Little did I know that a few months later these same men would still be showing me so much respect and encouragement. Each day I am pushed to give God my gifts, talents, and abilities. Being a part of the Make It Happen Team has been one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received, and I would encourage other young people to serve with open hands.
